Your Hosts

Michael and Cody having a little winter fun.

We are Michael & Cody, the proud owners of The Arbor Inn as of mid-June 2009. Committed to hospitality we will provide you with welcoming smiles, clean comfortable rooms and a wonderful country breakfast each morning.

I Michael, was raised in Connecticut by French Canadian parents, served in the military. I eventually relocated to Key West, Florida in the mid 90's and managed a small 5 star Bed & Breakfast before going into the Real Estate business. After several years I decided  to move to Miami Beach, Florida and was employed by Carnival Cruise Lines.

Cody, of Moroccan descent has traveled all over the world before settling in Miami Beach, Florida where Cody was employed as an EMT instructor for the better part of 19 years.

Guest will ask us how we ended up in Stowe, Vermont from Miami Beach? We said it was time to follow our dreams of owning our own business. I, Michael then remembered as an impressionable teenager, that Vermont was like a picturesque snow globe that made me feel special just to partake in the wintery majestry. Nothing surpassed the warm crunch of a morning snow blanket, the warmth of tired muscles or glowing ambers at the end of advernturesome days. Fondly I recalled these memories and sweet thoughts of the simple pleasures of a magical place called Stowe. Since hospitality and guest relations seem to come to the two of us  naturely, a B&B seemed the ideal opportunity to create warmth for a new generation of travelers and share the spirit of returnees.

We have found our home here in Stowe and welcome all to experience the life we have created.

If you would like to meet our pets, just ask. Tula and Mambo are very friendly and would enjoy meeting and possibly saying hello. Tula a Boston Terrier doesn't speak but fetches very well and Mambo a Yellow Headed Amazon Bird on the other hand, if he is in the mood just might say hello.

The Arbor Inn History

The Arbor Inn, formerly known as the Buccaneer Coutry Lodge was built in 1957 by the parent of "Billy Kidd". The Inn started as a small 8 room Motel to support the family who had moved to Stowe from Burlington so that there son would be closer to the place he most enjoyed, Mt. Mansfield.

The Inn was later sold and the new owners decided to add a 2nd floor containing 4 suites each of which are unique. After completing the suites they decided to turn the Arbor Inn into a Bed & Breakfast. Since then the Inn has gone through several owners and the name change took place sometime in the late 1990's. The current owners Michael and Cody purchased the Inn in June 2009 and have given a new rebirth to the Inn by updating and restoring the Inn and truly demonstrating what the word "HOSPITAILITY" really means.

More about "Billy" Kidd

Kidd's real name is William Winston Kidd who is a direct descendent of William Kidd the famouse pirate. Kidd became a top junior ski racer at Stowe with Mt. Mansfield Ski Team. Kidd skied for the University of Vermont in Burlington before being named to the U.S. Ski Team in 1962. He then went on to win the Silver Medal in the slalom at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. Kidd was the first American man to earn an Olympic medal in alpine skiing.

Kidd had a very successful skiing career. Besides being the first American male to win a medal in the Olympics in 1964 he also took third in the combined.

In his last non-World Cup season of 1966, he won three big races in Europe and was actually outracing Jean Claude Killy. In 1968 he took fifth in the giant slalom in the Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. Following the Olympics, he won World Cup slalom in Aspen in March. In 1970 at the World Championships in Val Gardena, Italy. Kidd won the gold medal in the combined and the bronze in the slalom. He then retired later that year.

Upon retiring from pro racing in 1972. He relocated to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in 1970 and has since been identified with the Steamboat Ski Resort, where he continues to serve as its director of skiing.
